Bethel Music has released a song entitled, "Reckless Love."
In the song, they sing about the God who leaves the 99 to find the 1. The bridge declares,
"There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
No lie You won't tear down
Coming after me."
So God loves me? ya. I get it. But what does that mean?
Jesus said it this way, ""Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't
he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep
until he finds it?- Luke 15:4
That's Reckless. Imagine what could happen to the 99 sheep. In the First Century, your livestock was more than your property it was your money.Someone could and probably would steal your sheep.
Let's put it another way, imagine you had 100 dollars but lost 1. Would you search for that one dollar?
Let's raise the stakes..... imagine you had $100,000 dollars. but you lost 1,000 of it. Would you leave your 99,000 dollars on a park bench in central park in order to look for the other 1,000? Or would you say, "To heck with it, I still have plenty of money."
It's reckless because it doesn't make sense logically.
The story of Christmas is a story of reckless love because he doesn't care about the risk of coming to earth. His eyes are always looking forward to the cross and showing sinners there is true love for them, for us.
Many times in American Christianity we talk about "finding Jesus" but we cant, and we wouldn't find him on our own. We are like sheep wandering around without their shepherd.
Yet, when God had nothing to gain, He came. Even if they dont love me back, I will continue to captivate their hearts.
I pray as we transition from 2017 to 2018, you are overwhelmed by the reckless love of God and it will drive you to love others in a similar manner as his kingdom continues to invade earth.
